Why did we change the name of the club? For those who visit the site and wonder, here are a few points to ponder. First, Permian Basin Model Aircraft Club tells folks just exactly where we are. We are very proud to be from Odessa, Texas, but we are not affiliated with nor sponsored by the City of Odessa. “Permian Basin”, on the other hand refers to just one place on the entire planet, and does not imply sponsorship by any government entity. Secondly, there is “Model Aircraft Club”. It tells people pretty much what we do. If you are interested in Model Aircraft, we are the people you want to see, we are a model aircraft club. What does the average guy on the street think a “Propbuster club” does. Nothing positive can be made of it. And RC or R/C doesn’t help clarify the mess you’ve made! In addition, there are many clubs in Texas, not to mention other states, named Propbusters, or some close variant. So, we are now Permian Basin Model Aircraft Club, or PBMAC, and still AMA Charter Club #618. When people outside our sport or area see our name, they know what we do and what area we are from and represent.
President John Sellers
PS.. The name and address of the web site will remain the same for now.

The August club meeting and “Big Bird” are history, and we are looking forward to at least another couple of months of great flying weather. The weather has been, for the most part, fantastic this year; I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Between the weeds and rain, we’ve had a lot of activity at the field. We are once again getting some much-appreciated help from the City of Odessa on mowing. Doug Faltus, Don Renshaw and maybe others have been mowing the grass shorter up near the runways.
The weed situation continued to be a problem with all the rain, and it has been difficult to keep up. This is a problem throughout the Permian Basin. With all the activity in the oilfield these days, commercial weed control is at a premium. With that in mind, the club has taken matters into it’s own hands and the weeds are dying! Thanks again largely to the efforts of Don Renshaw.
Speaking of Don, he has recently agreed to be in charge of Field Maintenance, so technically he is the Field Marshall, rounding out our Board of Directors. Currently we have yours truly as Pres., Maurice Alfred as Vice Pres., and Glen Tabor as Sec./Treas., Clint Duewell as Safety Officer, and Don Renshaw as Field Maintenance Director. According to our bylaws, that is also the Board of Directors. The President can appoint two at-large Directors if deemed necessary, but I believe 5 are enough.
Now is the time to be thinking about AMA sanctions for next year’s events. At this point in time, the general Propbuster membership is growing at a steady rate, but it seems everyone just wants to fly and not be burdened with helping or running events at the field. In years past, we relied on money earned on club events to keep dues low and the club solvent. These days, the club dues collected and the refrigerator (money from coke and candy sales) are keeping us afloat financially.
My point is this; Next year let’s just have the events that a number of the club members have really supported, namely, the Swap Meet, and the IMAC. If someone really wants to push and promote a Big Bird or Scale Meet, I’m willing to help, but it ain’t gonna be me.
Another note of interest; There has been more talk of a new name for the club. “Propbusters” has been claimed by many clubs across the country, several here in Texas. It is thought by many to be overused, derogatory, etc. If you have a better suggestion, let’s hear it. The club will award $50.00 to the person who comes up with and promotes the new name being voted in. So think of something clever that has a good ring to it, and you can convince a large number of members to vote for. We will do a mail out of ballots to members if and when we get some really good candidates. The only fair way to register your idea is with me on my cell phone, which I answer 7 days a week during reasonable hours 352-2836. If you think you have a unique new handle for our club, call me and I will write it down and record the time and date. The offer is out there, let’s see what happens.
See you at the field!!!

FROM THE PRESIDENT November 2006
I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. We are still enjoying more terrific flying days than not, and for November that's pretty cool. Hope everyone is getting out and enjoying it. Thanks to everyone for keeping the field picked up and relatively tidy. As scheduled, elections will be held at the December 4th meeting. The people that were nominated and accepted at the November meeting are listed in the minutes. Nominations will close before we vote at the meeting. On the subject of elections, let me clear up one point. The Sec/Treas, Vice-President and President are the only elected officers in our club. While I think we should always strongly consider anyone who is qualified and volunteering for either of the appointed committee chairs, Safety Officer (or Safety Chairman) is just that. He is appointed, not elected.
There will be more discussion on events for 2007. I have a preliminary go-ahead from Daniel to hold our joint IMAC event with the Midland club on Memorial Day weekend. Other than a possible jet rally, that should allow us to finalize the dates for our 2007 calendar of events.
See you at the meeting!!!

President John Sellers called the meeting to order at 8:00 PM. It was held at the Propbuster Flite Site pavilion. There were 14 members present.
George Beauchamp made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting, as published in the e-mail Newsletter and as posted on our Web Site. Glen Tabor read the treasurer’s report and it was approved as read.
Old Business.
Glen Tabor reported that Big Bird Event was profitable and well attended.
New Business - The ballots for Our Club By-Laws were opened & counted. They passed by overwhelming majority of the voters. The count was 26 in favor, with 3 against.
President lead discussion for Review of the various potential 2007 Calendar Events. The potential of tying some in with some charitable activity was further explored. An example would be to Charge X amount of canned goods as an admission to a particular event. In turn the collected goods would be donated to an appropriate organization for distribution.
Buck Blevins suggested for the admission to be a toy, especially during holidays. TOYS for TOTS is typical activity category. Historically this had been a U.S. Marine Corps lead drive.
Further it was agreed that our perennial good relationship with Music City Mall should be maintained as it has been our prime location for “MALL” Shows.
We also discussed the Clubs’ Calendar 2007 Events Schedule. It is listed in this Newsletter issue so take a look to see if you can expand or comment on it at our next meeting.

FROM THE PRESIDENT October 2006
Thanks to everyone who voted for or against the new bylaws. The club works better the more members let their opinions be known. And speaking of voting, we have club officer elections coming up in December. Nominations will open at the November meeting, so be thinking about those. Also, we had a really good discussion at the September meeting about events for the upcoming year. The AMA is really pushing charitable club events for the good of the local community and the positive reflection on the club and the sport. We are open to suggestions as to what organization we might, as a club, want to help out and support. This doesn't have to be limited to one organization, or even on event. We need everyone's input on this, please.
Thanks to everyone for being safe at the field. Be especially careful of rattlesnakes as the grass is taller than usual after all the rain we've received.
See y'all at the meeting!!!

REMINDER
We are getting lots of flying in!
Please note that the proposed new club bylaws are shown on the website. Also, a couple of copies are available for review at the clubhouse, and a few have been mailed. Please do not take these from the premises. Everyone should take a look at them and let us know what you think. Pete Lufholm, Don Davis, Don Renshaw, Glen Tabor and myself comprised the bylaw proposal committee.
As most of you know the AMA published a recommendation for club bylaws a couple of years ago. Several clubs have already adopted these. After some discussion, we are proposing the Odessa Propbusters do the same. What you see in our proposal is right down the line with AMA recommendations and policy. This eliminates any friction or difference between what the AMA wants and what we have in place. The advantages are obvious, starting with the clubs liability to the City of Odessa and liability for any future insurance claims. This bylaw proposal carries with it the weight of AMA's 60 years of experience, so please consider them very carefully. My thanks to the committee members for their time and effort. Everyone is doing a great job of keeping the flying field clean and neat. Thanks for all your efforts.
Everyone please remember that we have the BIG BIRD EVENT on the agenda. It will take place on August 12th & 13th. As always each and everyone’s help is needed so we can make this another Propbuster
Winner. Call Glen Tabor and volunteer your services .
